KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Scores of reggae fans from across the globe placed roses before a statue of Bob Marley yesterday to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of the musician, whose charismatic, loose-limbed stage presence and lyrics promoting "one love" took the Jamaican musical genre to an international audience. Tourists watched as three clerics from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church spread incense and holy water around the Bob Marley Museum, the singer's former home in the capital of Kingston. On May 11, 2011, The GRAMMY Museum will debut a new exhibit, Bob Marley, Messenger. Housed on the Museum's second floor, the exhibit will focus on Bob Marley as a private, spiritual man, as a powerful performer who used his lyrics to give a voice to the disenfranchised and as a legend who has inspired legions of fans in the 30 years since his death. Kingston, May 6, 2011 May 11, 2011 will mark the 30th year since reggae icon Bob Marley transcended this life. The Bob Marley Foundation and the Bob Marley Museum are making preparations to mark this occasion, as are numerous organizations, radio and television programmes across the globe. International interest in commemorating Marley's passing is not surprising. Since his passing, Marley's legacy has surpassed mere fame as he represents far more than a pop legend. Ms. Jackie Lynch-Stewart, Manager of the Foundation and Museum, remarks that the Marley family promotes the celebration of Bob Marley's life and as such emphasis is usually placed on the commemoration of his birth. However, due to the significance of the 30th anniversary special arrangements will be made for the commemoration of the date at the museum located on Hope Road.
